A van driver who pulled a triathlete from her bike, seriously injuring her has been handed a suspended prison sentence and ordered to pay compensation.
Martin Lee, 46, stopped his van to confront cyclist Caroline Livesey in May 2017 after he had swerved to avoid her, after she had been forced to take evasive action to avoid hitting a dog that had run into the road.
Lee, from Lofthouse, Harrogate, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm at an earlier hearing.
The cyclist suffered a fracture in the inner-pelvic area of her spine and cuts and bruises to her lower back and head. The injuries she endured forced her off the road for four months.
Lee was given a six-month suspended sentence at York Crown and ordered to pay Livesey £5,000 compensation.
