Oleg Tinkov, former Tinkoff team owner, launched another attack on his former rider Alberto Contador.
“Contador hasn’t won any protour race in the last 11 months. He has received 4million euro since then as a salary. What a rip off for investors,” Tinkov posted on Twitter.
Contador joined Team Saxo Bank, as it then was, for the 2011 season, winning the Giro d’Italia that year. However, he would be stripped of that title, as well as victory in the 2010 Tour de France, as a result of his positive test for clenbuterol.
The Spanish rider left team Tinkoff this winter when it folded. He joined Trek-Segafredo and planned out his season with the Tour de France as his number one goal.
Contador is still searching for his first win since last August’s Vuelta a Burgos title and first in Trek-Segafredo colours. In 2017, the Spaniard has finished second overall in four of the five stage races he’s started with 12th place at Abu Dhabi Tour an outlier so far.
Tinkov has often publicly vented his frustrations in the past and was particularly critical of Contador following the 2016 Lombardia. Last month, the outspoken Russian launched an unprecedented attack on Contador, calling him “a piece of Spanish s**t”.
