Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec have signed Martí Vigo del Arco, a 22-year-old Spaniard who hasn’t been on the bike that long.

Vigo del Arco has been a cross-country skier at a high level in recent years and he participated in the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.

The Italian team offered Vigo del Arco a contract for two years.

Vigo only started cycling in 2020 after his partner joined a professional team. He underwent physical tests with former professional cyclist Patxi Vila, the head of performance at Movistar, and his results were found to be “exceptional,” according to Androni.

Riding for Telco’m-On Clima-Oses cycling team, Vigo del Arco subsequently finished sixth in the Championship of Aragón and thirteenth in the Valenciaga Memorial.

“The story of Vigo is very reminiscent to that of Egan Bernal”, said Androni in a statement. “The Colombian came from mountain biking. When Alberati himself presented him and proposed to various teams, Gianni Savio, without hesitation, also on the basis of superb physical values, was the most ready to bet on South American talent by immediately putting him under contract. Whether it is a story that repeats itself it is impossible to say, but certainly the situations are a historical recourse at least curious and the numbers of Marti Vigo a good business card”.
