The UCI has accepted the application of Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec for Pro-Continental status.
However, there are still other teams waiting to hear about their applications, including the Chinese-backed TJ Sport team and the Polish Verva Activejet team.
The Italian team was put in the waiting room by the UCI in November as they did not meet all the requirements for a professional licence. Meanwhile, the paperwork from Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec has now been completed and the UCI has issued the licence for 2017.
The TJ Sport project was recently in the news as rumors circulated that funding problems could end its attempt to take over the WorldTour license from the Lampre-Merida outfit. Cyclingnews recently reported that bike sponsor Colnago had helped secure additional funding from Middle Eastern groups in an effort to cover a financial shortfall.
