Adrien Costa is back on the bike just over 11 weeks after a climbing accident cost him his leg.
Christopher Blevins, a friend and former teammate of Costa’s on the Hagens Berman Axeon team, posted a photo of Costa out riding in California.
He has been out riding with a new prosthetic leg and has also been pushing his rehab on a vertical climbing wall.
Costa was taking time away from cycling when he had his accident during the summer. While climbing the north ridge of Mount Conness in Mono County, a two-tonne rock gave way and crushed Costa’s leg against a bolder.
He was evacuated from the area by helicopter for emergency medical treatment. And it was during treatment that staff broke the news he must have his leg amputated.
The severity of the injury to the American’s leg left doctors no choice but to amputate.
