Claudi Cretti is back riding a bike just four months after after a crash in the Giro Rosa left her with serious head injuries.
The 21-year-old was placed in an enduced coma after hitting a roadside guardrail at 90km/h during stage 7 of the Giro Rosa.
Cretti was operated on to decompress the pressure on her brain and to take out a cerebral hematoma. She was transferred to a hospital in her hometown within a month, and is now back on a bike for the first time.
Italian broadcaster Rai showed a video of Cretti, still with short hair from her time undergoing treatment in hospital, going for a ride on a hybrid bike with her brother Giacomo.
“She’d been waiting for months to ride a bike and now she’s done it. It was the first time since July that I’ve seen her smile like that,” Giacomo told RAI.
“She was always so protective of me because I’m her younger brother, so it seems only right that I’ve tried to help her as much as possible in such a difficult moment. I’m happy to do whatever I can.”
