Nairo Quintana may be back in action at Vuelta a Colombia

It has been very quiet around Nairo Quintana for the past months as the 33-year-old Colombian has still not found a new team and last raced four months ago at the National Championships.

However, Quintana is thinking of participating at the Vuelta a Colombia (June 16-25), one of the largest cycling races in South America. Although the former rider of Movistar and Arkea-Samsic still does not have a new employer, he can participate as a member of the Colombian national team.

Mauricio Vargas, president of the Colombian Cycling Federation, confirmed the rumour.

“There is certainly a possibility that Nairo Quintana will compete with the Colombian team at the Vuelta a Colombia.”

Quintana has been without a team since October 2022. The winner of the Giro d’Italia 2014 and Vuelta a Espana 2016 has raced for the Arkea-Samsic for the past three seasons. However, both parties decided to separate despite an earlier verbal agreement to extend the contract.

The Colombian was removed from the results of the Tour de France last year after a positive test for Tramadol.
