Despite losing 18 bikes in a burglary, CCC Sprandi Polkowice will take part in the upcoming Amstel Gold Race.

In the night between Thursday and Friday burglars broke into the Polish team’s truck and stole all the bikes. “It happened on a guarded parking lot in front of our hotel in Valkenburg.

“All 18 bikes and spare wheels were stolen, despite the fact that the truck was equipped with car alarm and the door was blocked by another team car, parked right in front of it. We don’t know how the burglars managed to go around the security system,” said the team’s Director Sportive Piotr Wadecki.

The 2017 edition of Amstel Gold Race takes the peloton from Maastricht to Valkenburg. The course has been changed comparing to previous years, as the finish line will be at the same place, but the organizers decided to scrap the fourth and last ascent of Cauberg. They justify their decision, saying that the exclusion of the climb will open up the race, rewarding attacking riders and making the event more appealing.

For CCC Sprandi Polkowice it will be fourth consecutive time participating in the “beer race”. So far the best result has been recorded by Maciej Paterski, who earned 9th in 2015. He will lead the Polish team alongside Jan Tratnik.
