Pogacar offered 18m per year to join Ineos, says Italian journalist

Tadej Pogacar rejected an astronomical offer from Team Ineos for three seasons that could “tripled his salary” from UAE Team Emirates, says RAI journalist Beppe Conti.

If this proposal of the British team is true, the Slovenian would receive an annual salary of 18 million euros, equal to or higher than that of many top-level football players.

Pogacar recently signed the longest contract in the history of cycling, for six new seasons for the UAE, until the end of 2027. His salary is not public, nor is that of any professional cyclist, but should be around 6 million euros.

A reason why this operation is implausible, or at least with that astronomical salary, is that in case of offering 18 million to a single cyclist, Pogacar would take practically a big part of the annual budget of the British team.

Another reason why this move seems impossible right now is the UAE transfer campaign for 2022 that was designed to support Tadej Pogacar at the Tour de France. The Slovenian rider finally gets some important climbers to help him, with Joao Almeida, George Bennett and Marc Soler bringing lot of quality in the mountains for UAE.
