Nairo Quintana: We’ll have to fight back as best we can

As expected Nairo Quintana has lost the red jersey after the stage 10 individual time trial of the Vuelta a Espana.

The Colombian rider finished the 36.2-kilometre route more than three minutes slower than stage winner Primoz Roglic. The Slovenian wasn’t only the fastest man of the day but he also took the lead of the general classification.

“It’s not been a good day. I’ve lost more time than I expected. Two minutes would have been OK, but three minutes is more than I anticipated,” Quintana said.

“Still, we’ll have to fight back as best we can and see if we can attack Roglic in the mountains. It’s our only option.”

“I don’t know for now, we’ll take it on the day by day,” Quintana said. “We have to attack Roglic.”

After two transition stages, Quintana’s first opportunity to attack Roglic will come during Friday’s summit finish at Los Machucos.
