Bahrain-Merida have announced their signing of Mikel Landa from Movistar for 2020 with a one-year contract.

Since his first WorldTour team Euskatel-Euskadi, Landa has bounced around every two years. First he moved to Astana, taking third in the 2015 Giro d’Italia while helping Fabio Aru, in 2016 and 2017 he served Sky, and in the last two seasons he has been part of Movistar.

“It is with immense pleasure that we welcome Mikel to our team, he is a rider who brings excitement to racing with his incredible climbing skills which makes him one of the most competitive riders for the grand tours,” said Bahrain-Merida’s general manager Brent Copeland.

“His consistent results speak for themselves and his exceptional experience is something that we at Team Bahrain Merida know we can count on. With the arrival of McLaren to our team, we believe that Mikel will have even more benefits to taking advantage of and this makes everyone at the team very enthusiastic, we are sure the fans are just as excited as we are about his arrival as we all looking forward to cheering Mikel on.”

Landa’s move to Bahrain-Merida will see him pair up with Rod Ellingworth again, as the 46-year-old joins as the team’s new principal from Team Ineos. The duo worked together during Landa’s two years at Team Sky.
