The 15th stage from Laissac-Sévérac l’Église to Le Puy-en-Velay of 189,5 km has ended the second week of the Tour de France.
Ahead of the second rest day of the race, which will be tomorrow, Astana leader Fabio Aru holds second position in the general classification, 18 seconds behind Chris Froome.
“Today it was a tough and unpredictable stage”, said Aru. “But, I felt quite well and my team did a very good job, supporting me during the stage”.
“I tried to hold the concentration, especially when the team of Romain Bardet increased the pace on the climb. It was a strong move, the speed was really high, but I tried to stay in front to control possible new attacks.
“The final was very fast. There was a short climb not far from the finish, but it was not steep enough for a successful attack. Somebody from our group tried to escape, but it did not work. So, tomorrow is a long-waited rest day.
“I want to rest and recover as well as possible. We have a whole week of racing, six stages, all very important. So, the fight is continuing,”
