Cannondale-Drapac will take to the start of the Vuelta a Andalucia on Wednesday and it will be the first full WorldTour team on discs.
The five-day stage race starts off with two challenging mountain stages, followed by a short individual time trial and two stages with potentially bunch sprint finishes.
The Ruta del Sol will mark Cannondale-Drapac’s first use of disc brakes at a race.
“Cannondale and Slipstream Sports came up with a disc-brake plan for the season, which includes different bike races throughout the year. In all of those races we will use disc brakes for the entire team, not just several riders. We are looking forward to use this year’s Vuelta a Andalucia as our debut race. We are keen to enjoy its advantages and together with Cannondale, we will use the riders’ feedback for upcoming disc brake race events.”, sport director Andreas Klier said.
“The Ruta del Sol is very interesting for all WorldTour teams, as it’s only two weeks away from the first WorldTour races in Europe. It’s an experienced organisation and normally the weather is good. We’re looking for a good performance by Hugh Carthy and are aiming for the GC with Rigoberto Uran. We also see chances for Tom Van Asbroeck in stages four and five”, sport director Juan Manuel Garate said.
