Ben Swift has been discharged from hospital after being placed in intensive care following a crash on a training ride with Geraint Thomas.

The 31-year-old ruptured his spleen after falling heavily when he collided with Thomas during a training ride in Tenerife last week.

Swift was taken to the Hospital Universitario de Canarias that afternoon, with Team Sky issuing an update on his condition later that day.

Team doctor Inigo Sarriegui said at the time: “Swifty suffered quite a heavy crash whilst out training. Thankfully though, he didn’t lose consciousness and was aware of the incident afterwards.

Swift still hopes to ride Milan-San Remo in March, a race that he has finished on the podium twice in his career.

“It’s been one long week in hospital but I have made really good progress and I have finally been discharged and will be on my way home tomorrow,” Swift wrote on Instagram.

“Big thank you to everyone that showed concern and gave me well wishes, reading it all helped pass the time. Looking forward to recovering and getting back with the @teamsky boys”
