Young Italian Andrea Bagioli (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) took his first pro win in the Tour de l’Ain after he outsprinted Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) on the uphill finish in Ceyzeriat.
“It’s incredible. After I’d crossed the line I couldn’t believe that I’d won, then I was told I had done. It’s a crazy feeling,” said Bagioli. “Thanks to my team for this. The victory is dedicated to Fabio. We hope that he recovers quickly and is soon able to return to the group.”
The French race has attracted a many big names this year at the start, among them Chris Froome, Egan Bernal, Geraint Thomas, Roglic and Dumoulin. The race concludes on Sunday with a mountainous route to Grand Colombiere that mimics the decisive stage 15 of the upcoming Tour de France.
