Chris Hoy revealed ambitions to be the first person to cycle across Antarctica, but is seeking a partner in covering the 1,528.8km distance.
“It’s a strange and huge challenge,” he said of his project. “I’m trying to find somebody stupid enough to do it with me. We’re chatting to a few people.”
“It’s going to have to be able to deal with minus whatever the temperature,” he pointed out.
Hoy’s team are heading to Iceland to test a bike built to withstand the brutal cold.
The first man to ride from the coast to the South Pole on a two-wheel bicycle was Daniel Burton, who covered 1,247km. Others have completed this challenge using a combination of bike, skis and other methods.
