Simon Carr won the final stage of the Tour of the Alps as fellow Tao Geoghegan Hart claimed first overall.

Geoghegan Hart won the first two stages of the race and took overall victory by 22 seconds from Hugh Carthy.

Carthy’s team-mate Simon Carr went solo to win the final stage by 53 seconds.

“I’ve been in the break on three occasions this week, so probably more time in the break than in the bunch, which has been good fun,” Carr said. “Obviously by now a bit tired and this morning I was really tired. I was surprised to have those legs in the final but really happy to finish it off.

Geoghan Hart, who won the 2020 Giro, and former Tour de France champion Geraint Thomas are expected to spearhead the Ineos challenge at the Giro d’Italia in two weeks.
