Primoz Roglic put in a powerful surge that no one could match in the final few hundred meters of stage 2 to nab another victory for Jumbo-Visma in Criterium du Dauphine.
Ineos took control of the peloton on the last ascent of the day and Geraint Thomas, Chris Froome and Pavel Sivakov took turns, but their pace wore off Egan Bernal and in the last kilometre Primoz Roglic launched an attack and couldn’t be followed by any of the favourites.
The Slovenian crossed the finish line by himself, eight seconds ahead Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) and Emanuel Buchmann (Bora-hansgrohe), and climbed to the top of the general classification of the race.
“It’s a great result for our team,” Roglic said. “Once again we show that we prepared right. The whole team did a really great job and I’m happy to finish on top again.
“We all knew about the hard climb at the finish and we started to control the race from the beginning. The guys are really strong so they managed it perfectly and in the end, I was happy to be able to win this.
