Remco Evenepoel will be looking to get his WorldTour career off to a winning start when he makes his Quick-Step team debut at the Vuelta a San Juan in January.
The 18-year-old put in an epic ride in Innsbruck at the Road World Championships, winning the road title after having claimed the junior world TT title days earlier.
“The first four months I will do a few competitions,” Evenepoel told Het Nieuwsblad.
“I start at the Vuelta a San Juan, and in principle, it will be followed by the Volta ao Algarve, the Volta a Catalunya and the Tour of Turkey.”
The young Belgian signed a two-year contract with Deceuninck-Quick-Step and will make the unusual move from the junior ranks straight to the WorldTour in 2019. Evenepoel’s calendar will pay a lot of attention to rest and to recover next season.
“Those races are ideal,” Evenepoel explained. “I can calmly discover myself as a professional. Trying and feeling every race like ‘that’s how it works here’.
“Catalunya will be a challenge, WorldTour level. (Alejandro) Valverde, (Nairo) Quintana and company will undoubtedly already look good. I look forward to that, it is motivating. I am already working on it all in my mind. I immediately want to start in Argentina.”
