Specialized takes on gravel race bikes with its new, totally redesigned carbon Diverge.

Specialized Diverge 2017The new Diverge’s major features include a dropper seatpost, a Future Shock front suspension unit similar to that on the Specialized Roubaix, and extremely wide tyre clearance that has been further opened up by compatibility with smaller diameter 650b wheels. Despite all the extra bits, the full build as shown comes in at a surprisingly light 8.5kg.

The most substantial change to the redesigned frame is the inclusion of the Future Shock, which is a spring inside a cartridge positioned in the top of the steerer tube. It provides 20mm of basic suspension – there’s no damping or adjustment.

The Diverge’s premium model comes with a premium price tag: $9,000. Fortunately, you can choose from four different models with the carbon frame, if you can’t stomach the S-Works price tag.
