Miles Scotson (Groupama-FDJ) took the victory in the opening stage of the Volta a la Comunitatat Valenciana after a solo effort.
The Australian broke away from the peloton with over 20km to go and he held off the chasing peloton to take victory and the yellow leaders jersey by 28 seconds over the chasing peloton led in by John Degenkolb.
There was a minor scare for Scotson, who crashed with 4km left on a wet roundabout, but his lead was so big that he was able to gather himself and get back on his bike, before riding to the line unchallenged.
