Mathieu van der Poel will make his return to road racing later this month at the Sibiu Tour.

The Romanian race will see a handful of big cycling star in action in two weeks. Bora-hansgrohe and Israel Start-Up Nation will both be in attendance as well. So too will Meridiana Kamen with Davide Rebellin as leader.

The 48-year-old Rebellin will be lining up against Mathieu van der Poel 22 years after last lining up against his father Adrie van der Poel.

Van der Poel’s first goal of the resumed 2020 schedule is a victory at the Strade Bianche. The 25-year-old intends to train at altitude in La Plagne, France, before getting back to racing at the Sibiu Tour on July 23-26.

“This year will be the tenth edition and now that the whole cycling calendar has been turned upside down by the coronavirus, renowned teams are coming to Romania,” Alpecin-Fenix team manager said. “So Alpecin-Fenix, with Mathieu van der Poel but also Bora-Hansgrohe with the German sprinter Pascal Ackermann. With Israel Start-Up Nation, a second team from the World Tour is also at the start.”

The Sibiu Tour will be live on cycling.today starting on 23 July, right HERE.
