Fabio Jakobsen (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) took first victory since his horror crash at the 2020 Tour of Poland last August which left him fighting for his life.

The Dutch rider outsprinted Fernando Gaviria (UAE Team Emirates) and Amaury Capiot (Arkea-Samsic) to win a shortened stage 2 of the Tour de Wallonie.

“I think it means the end of my rehabilitation. I guess I can say I’m back,” Jakobsen said. “I look forward to winning more stages. For today, cheers.”

Jakobsen had multiple rounds of facial and dental surgery to repair the damage from the 2020 crash. He made his return to racing at the 2021 Tour of Turkey in April where he was part of a team that helped Mark Cavendish to win four stages.
