It was an undulated parcours that forced some splits in the finale and an early break had no chance to survive.
The race came back together with only 5km remaining and in the last roundabout with less than one kilometer to go parts of the bunch took the wrong way.
In the end Ide Schelling (Bora-hansgrohe) was in the right place and took the win ahead of Luka Mezgec (Jayco-AlUla).
“When I heard the news in the finish about what happened in Switzerland all my joy went away immediately,” said Schelling. “It’s not a day to celebrate. These are not tears of joy, but of sadness for Gino Mäder. I lost a friend of mine today and I don’t want to talk about my victory.”
