Fernando Gaviria crossed the finish line first for the first time in 2021, after outsprinting Olav Kooij of Jumbo-Visma and Phil Bauhaus of Bahrain Victorious in stage 3 of Tour de Pologne.
“It was a really nice stage for us and a really nice victory. I tried to take the victory this year a lot of times and I am glad it arrived today”, Gaviria said.
“In the morning we spoke with the sports directors about the tactics for the stage. All the team trusted me for today. We did the maximum to arrive in the bunch, we put a lot of riders to work. The team then put me in the best position for the sprint.”
Joao Almeida maintained his four-second gap over Diego Ulissi and Matej Mohoric in the general classification after finishing in the peloton.
Tomorrow, the race is set to cover 160.5km from Tarnów to Termy Bukowina Tatrzańska – the sole full mountain stage of this year’s race.
