Bora-hansgrohe and DSM are prepared to transfer European champion Fabio Jakobsen with Bora in particular having the best chance of contracting the sprinter.

Jakobsen’s management still has a meeting on the agenda with his current team, Soudal Quick-Step, but the question is whether Patrick Lefevere still has enough budget left to keep the expensive Dutchman now that he is mainly working on a team for to the Grand Tours around Remco Evenepoel.

Fabio Jakobsen is out of contract with Soudal Quick-Step this season and is currently one of the most sought after riders on the transfer market. The team also has sprinter Tim Merlier under contract until the end of 2025 and the question is whether Lefevere can keep two top sprinters in his team.

If he wants to build a team around Evenepoel for the Grand Tours, keeping a team for the Flemish classics also seems to be too much for his budget. Before the end of the month, a meeting will take place between Lefevere and Jakobsen’s management about his future.

Bora-hansgrohe have already extended with Danny van Poppel for the next three years and has one of the best lead-out man in the peloton. Currently Sam Bennett is the team’s top sprinter, but the 32-year-old Irishman seems to have lost his edge.

Various sources have confirmed that Fabio Jakobsen is the dream candidate for Bora-hansgrohe and that negotiations are at an advanced stage. In the battle for UCI points, DSM is also still looking for a top sprinter. Iwan Spekenbrink’s team is prepared to put a lot of money on the table for Jakobsen.
