The American and British Road Championships will definitely not run in 2020, due to the coronavirus.
USA Cycling announced that it has done everything possible, but that it is impossible to organise the American championships this year.
“The challenges are insurmountable. We are not confident that the safety of participants, volunteers and employees can be guaranteed.”
“Although the American championships cannot take place, more and more local events are being organised. However, the American championships attract audiences from all over the country. That is also why we decided to cancel this event.”
Alex Howes and Ruth Winder are currently the American champions on the road. UCI regulations have allowed them to wear their jersey until the next U.S. Championship.
British Cycling has also decided not to organise the championships this autumn, due to the corona measures.
In addition to the British Road Championships, there will also be no mountain bike, BMX and cycle speedway championships in 2020. British Cycling hopes that the cyclocross and track championships will take place in late 2020 or early 2021.
