Etoile de Besseges takes place in the south of France and opens the stages races season in Europe. The geographical setting of the race favors the sprinters and puncheurs rather than pure climbers. This fact is also confirmed by the last two winners, Benoit Cosnefroy last year and Christophe Laporte in 2019.
