Peter Sagan won Velo D’Or 2016 award given by French cycling Vélo magazine with 86 points, beating Chris Froome and Nairo Quintana.
Romain Bardet won the Vélo d’Or Francaise. The AG2R La Mondiale rider, who was the runner up at the 2016 Tour De France, earned 120 points with Arnaud Demare of FDJ on 88 points and Julian Alaphilippe with 62 points in third place.
Sagan had a momentous 2016 season. Not only did he defend his world title in Doha, but he also proved his worth as an all-rounder, taking his first win at the cobble-heavy Tour of Flanders, earning yet another green jersey at the Tour de France, and securing podium spots at a slew of other races.
The Slovakian will ride for Bora – hansgrohe team in 2017 and will open his new season at the Tour Down Under.
