The 2019 Tour de France will start on July 6 with a stage which will cover roads in both Flanders and Wallonia followed by a team time trial in Brussels.

It was already known that the 2019 edition is set to start in Brussels, Belgium, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Eddy Merckx’s first overall victory.

The Mayor of Geraardsbergen has been involved in the planning of the first stage and said that the legendary climb Muur van Geraardsbergen could host the finish of stage 1.

Greg van Avermaet told Het Nieuwsblad that he expects the first stage to include the Muur van Geraardsbergen and that it will have a “typical Tour de Flanders” finish.

Full details of the 2019 Tour de France Grand Depart will be revealed by the ASO on January 16.
