Greg Van Avermaet took his second win at Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal after he was the fastest out of a group of 20 finishing on the Avenue du Parc.
With the French duo of Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) and Benoît Cosnefroy (AG2R La Mondiale) gunning for the line from around 2km out Van Avermaet may have thought his chance of a first WorldTour win for over two years had vanished. However, the Olympic champion sat patiently in the bunch watching and waiting before making his move.
Diego Ulissi (UAE Team Emirates) finished second with Ivan Garcia Cortina (Bahrain-Merida) third, while Tim Wellens (Lotto-Soudal) and Michael Valgren (Dimension Data) rounded out the top five.
