UnitedHealthCare Pro Cycling Team rider Travis McCabe sprinted to victory on stage 3 of the Herald Sun Tour. Damien Howson remains in the overall lead.
The 165.6km stage from Benalla to Mitchelton was a good opportunity for a mass sprint but two crashes in the final kilometers significantly disrupted the plans of most of the sprinter’s teams.
“From the last 20 km the team took great care of me. Janier [Acevedo] took the last turn on the big road, putting Tanner [Putt] and Lachlan [Norris] in position to give me the right wheels to finish in the narrow last kilometer”, said McCabe. “I jumped at 250 m to go, and I did not see anyone coming near me. Up to victory!!”
