Simon Yates: I will definitely come back to try and win the Giro

For the second time in his career, Simon Yates reached the podium of a grand tour as he took third place in the Giro d’Italia.

“My stage win was without a doubt the highlight”, said Yates. “Bernal and Caruso showed that they were better, this was the maximum I could do. So of course I’m very happy with this. It’s not easy to win a Grand Tour and I can only be proud of what I’ve done.”

“My stage win was without a doubt the highlight”, the Briton looks back on three weeks of cycling through Italy. “I really enjoyed that. The team also did a lot of work that stage, it was great to be able to share that success with them. My worst day was the 16th stage, with the rain and the snow. You can’t be good for three weeks. I don’t think anyone can.”

“I enjoyed the Giro and I got the most out of myself,” concludes the 28-year-old. “I am very happy with the podium, but of course you always want to do better. I will definitely come back to try and win the Giro, but first we will enjoy this success.”

After a short rest period, Yates is probably preparing for the Olympic Games via the Tour de France.

“He’s going on holiday first, then we’ll see how he got out of the Giro,” Matt White said. “The Olympic road race is a big goal for Simon and it is very likely that you will see him in action again during the Tour.”
