Julien Simon (Cofidis) opened his account for 2017 with victory on the second and final stage of the Tour du Haut Var in Draguignan, while Arthur Vichot (FDJ) finished third to seal the overall win.
The 206.8km stage had both its start and its finish in the city of Draguignan. Raffaello Bonusi, Angel Madrazo, Thibault Ferasse, Franck Bonnamour and Nicolas Baldo formed the lead group of the day and created a gap of up to four minutes.
The five were caught at about 25 kilometers from the finish. A new group then formed ahead of the peloton and while Vichot had managed to make the cut, race leader Samuel Dumoulin failed to do so.
In the final sprint, Julien Simon timed his effort well to see off the twin challenges of Julien El Fares (Delko Marseille Provence KTM) and Arthur Vichot (FDJ).
