Sam Bennett will not be at the start of the Tour de France this year after was again left out of the final selection of Bora-hansgrohe team.
Jordi Meeus is the team’s choice for the sprins as the Belgian will make his Tour debut.
It is not the first time Bennett has received bad news regarding the Tour at the last minute. The Irishman was also passed at the last minute by the Bora-hansgrohe team management last year.
Bennett was brought in with a lot of drumroll by the German squad in the winter of 2021, but his performances were disappointing. Bennett won two stages at the Vuelta a Espana last year, but the victory counter is only one victory this season.
Bora-hansgrohe is still aiming for the sprints in the upcoming Tour de France, but with Jordi Meeus. The 24-year-old Belgian only rode one grand tour in his career, but can now prepare for his first Tour de France as he will count on the support of Nils Politt, Marco Haller and last man Danny van Poppel.
The German team also targets the general classification with Jai Hindley. Emanuel Buchmann and Bob Jungels will try to help the 2022 Giro winner in the mountains.
