Many European riders spend these days on the Teide in Tenerife, where they prepare for the new cycling season at an altitude of more than 2000 meters in quite spartan conditions. But not Richard Carapaz. The Ecuadorian is in his own country, where the mountains are not only higher, but also much more beautiful.
In recent days he and his team have posted some beautiful snapshots from Ecuador of his training rides he made alone or with fellow countryman Jhonatan Narvaez. Below you can see a breathtaking overview.
The photos were taken in the area around the Cotopaxi volcano, which is almost 6000 meters high and is located 60 kilometers from Quito. Carapaz does not train that high, but still at a good 4800 meters altitude – which is as high as the top of Mont Blanc.
How high!!?? ??️

Carapaz will start the new season at the Volta a Catalunya, then will ride the Tour of the Basque Country before a full Ardennes Classics campaign as he aims for a possible Liège-Bastogne-Liège win.
