Pascal Ackermann (Bora-hansgrohe) took a proud victory in Eschborn-Frankfurt, breaking Alexander Kristoff’s four-time winning streak.
The bunch sprint that was launched by Israel Cycling Academy’s Davide Cimolai, but the Italian couldn’t hold the pace and was soon overtaken by Ackermann, who crossed the finish line just ahead of John Degenkolb (Trek-Segafredo).
“I was admittedly under quite some pressure today,” Ackermann said. “We are a German team competing at a German race, and of course we wanted to do everything we could to win. The team is in top form, and so we’re looking forward to the upcoming Giro d’Italia.”
