Juan Ayuso: Next year maybe I will have the level to win the Tour

Juan Ayuso is for sure one of the greatest talents in cycling and at 20-year-old the Spaniard finished third in the Vuelta a Espana in 2022.

“I feel good and have a lot of confidence for the rest of the season,” says Ayuso. “It gave me a lot of morale to win against guys like Wout van Aert and Remco Evenepoel (in the final time trial of the Tour de Suisse).”

Ayuso stated that he has a new big goal in 2024.

“If everything goes well, I think I should go to the Tour next year. I’d like to be there. The most important thing, however, is that I continue to develop. Next year I want to take another step and then maybe I will have the level to win the Tour”, Pogacar’s teammate says.

“It’s a motivation to be as good as Tadej Pogacar, that’s what I ultimately work for.”

The talent is currently the most successful Spaniard in 2023 (in terms of UCI victories), but that doesn’t affect him too much.

“I’m happy now, but I know I can do much better. My goal is not to be the best Spaniard, but to be the best in the world.”
