Geoghegan Hart claims second stage in row at Tour of the Alps

Tao Geoghegan Hart made it two wins from two at the Tour of the Alps with victory on the second stage.

The 28-year-old pulled clear with Jack Haig in the closing stages before pipping the Australian to the line. It increases his overall race lead to 18 seconds over Felix Gall while Hugh Carthy is third, another four seconds back.

“You have to recognise Pavel in that final, he made it very easy, he kept the race together. Without his strength and experience it would have been much harder to keep that group together,” Geoghegan Hart said.

“I only had to do about 70 metres in the end because I couldn’t pedal after the sprint anyway.”

Things will spice up even more Wednesday in the 162.5km third stage from Ritten to Brentonico San Valentino, ending with a first-category summit finish.
