Filippo Zana (Jayco-AlUla) has won the Tour of Slovenia after he came in second in the last stage won by Matej Mohoric (Bahrain Victorious).
The 142.6-kilometre stage between Vrhnika and Novo Mesto was Mohoric’s first victory at the Tour of Slovenia. He was in the lead in some key segments of the route, especially on the climb up Trška Gora, not far from the finish line. Zana was the only one able to keep pace with him.
Zana fell behind on the descend, but Mohoric waited for him and edged him in the final sprint in Novo Mesto.
“It was very hot and the final climb was very hard,” said Zana. “Mohoric attacked, and I tried to follow but it was very difficult. I took it a bit easier after my crash yesterday, and thankfully Matej waited for me at the bottom of the climb and we went to the finish together. He won the stage and me the GC, it was perfect”
