On a short but tough uphill finish in Eceabat, the Australian finished off with a powerful sprint, beating Jasper Philipsen and Danny Van Poppel.
“I’m definitely a stronger rider than I was three years ago. It was an opportunity I really wanted to take,” he said. “It was a hard finale and I’ve become better at climbing. My team did an amazing job too. I’m proud of them and I’m happy to finish off their work.
“I didn’t know who was on my wheel in the sprint, I knew that Pat Bevin was going to be close. But it was a block headwind and uphill, so I really didn’t want to go too early and die. I knew the guys could come from behind. I timed it well and put my power down all the way to the line.”
