Egan Bernal will not ride the 2020 Giro d’Italia but will be returning to the Tour de France to defend his title.
Although it was initially discussed that he was going to make his debut in the Giro next season, the Colombian rider has confirmed that he isn’t riding the Italian race, reports El Tiempo.
Bernal had planned to lead Ineos at the 2019 Giro before he was sidelined by an injury. The 22-year-old returned in time to race the Tour de Suisse, which he won, and to make his second career Tour de France start.
The Ineos rider confirmed part of his calendar for the upcoming season. He will start riding the Colombian National Championships and then he will be at the start line of the Tour Colombia.
Then he will return to Europe where he will ride Paris-Nice, Volta a Catalunya, and the Vuelta al País Vasco. Then he will continue preparing for the Tour de France and will include a preparation race that will be the Tour de Suisse or the Criterium du Dauphine.
