Tom Dumoulin has revealed the reason behind his delayed start to the season with Jumbo-Visma, disclosing that he has been diagnosed with parasites in his stomach.
The Dutchman had to drop from the roster of Jumbo-Visma for the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana -where he was set to debut in his new colours- and later announced that he also decided to skip the next couple of races of his calendar to allow his body to fully heal.
“As you all know, I had not been feeling well recently,” Dumoulin wrote on Instagram.
“Last week, we found parasites in my gut and since then I started medication. I am feeling much better as I have had good training sessions today and over the weekend. I’m looking forward to planning my season start and next goals very soon! I’ll keep you posted!”
Dumoulin is due to share Tour de France leadership duties on with Primoz Roglic and Steven Kruijswijk later this year.
