Edvald Boasson Hagen will ride for Total Direct Energie next year after six seasons with NTT/Dimension Data.
At the beginning of October, Boasson Hagen was still in talks with the Ineos Grenadiers about a possible return to the British team, but the Norwegian now seems to be opting for an adventure with Total Direct Energie, the team of Niki Terpstra.
Boasson Hagen has one stage win in the Tour de France as a rider of Dimension Data and also won stages in the Critérium du Dauphiné, the Eneco Tour and the Tour of Norway.
“Thanks to the support of Total, the Total Direct Energie team has completed an ambitious hiring campaign that mixes youth and experience,” team manager Jean-René Bernaudeau said.
“There’s a group of climbers built around Pierre Latour, Alexandre Geniez and Fabien Doubey, plus Spanish riders Victor de La Parte and Cristian Rodriguez. We’re well set for the Classics with Niki Terpstra and Anthony Turgis and for the sprints with Niccolò Bonifazio, while Lawless is a good all-rounder.”
“I’d still like to add a fast finisher, a road captain. I have an idea of who,” he said. “Our recruitment for the year will be finalised by Friday.”
