With Astana and UAE Team Emirates rumoured to be interested in signing Nairo Quintana, his agent insists the rider will remain at Movistar until the end of 2018.
During the Tour de France Colombian media reported that Quintana is unhappy at Movistar and wants to break his contract with one year remaining.
Yesterday, reports in La Gazzetta dello Sport have suggested that the Colombian has moved closer to a move away from Movistar, breaking his contract, with a decision due Monday.
“No, it’s not true,” agent Giuseppe Acquadro told Cycling Weekly. “Yes, the other teams would want him, there’s interest, but he has a contract through 2019 with Movistar.”
“I’m not sure where that came from,” Acquadro said. “I’ve not heard anything like this from Movistar. Quintana is important for Movistar the sponsor, which has a huge South American market.
“Also, Nairo was not at his best this time but you watch, he could still return to win the double one year. I think it’s possible.”
