Thieves broke into CCC Sprandi Polkowice team truck Thursday night and stole all the bikes and spare wheels ahead of Amstel Gold Race.
However, the Polish team got some good news Friday evening as the police found them on. The bikes were found by police in a bus parked at the Sibberkerkstraat in Sibbe, a few kilometres away from Valkenburg.
“It happened on a guarded parking lot in front of our hotel in Valkenburg. All 18 bikes and spare wheels were stolen, despite the fact that the truck was equipped with a car alarm and the door was blocked by another team car, parked right in front of it. We don’t know how the burglars managed to go around the security system,” Piotr Wadecki, Directeur Sportif of the team said.
The police immediately began an investigation into the theft, but the team was forced to source replacement bikes.
CCC Sprandi Polkowice confirmed this morning the news in a tweet: “Easter miracle! The stolen bikes were found in an abandoned car! Thank you for your help in spreading the news. We beat the burglars!”
