Primoz Roglic defended his red jersey at the Vuelta with one stage left, but three teammates left the race during stage 20 and there are rumors that there is food poisoning within the team.
“The team was not at its best,” Roglic said afterwards. “But everyone gave it their all. I have a lot of respect for that, because they gave it everything they had.”
Rumors about a possible food poisoning were going around during the stage.
“We have done a lot of work as a team these weeks and now we just have to finish it. Let’s wait for that first before we start celebrating.”
“Luckily I feel pretty good at the moment, so it was a great day. We are at least one day closer. Things are going in the right direction, but tomorrow is really a classification day.”
There will be no parade in Madrid, because a 24.6km time trial must be completed by the riders in the Spanish capital.
“I always say that I am not a time trial specialist, so I really have to give everything I have.”
