Jonas Vingegaard will not race again this season, Visma-Lease a Bike has confirmed.
“Jonas is done for this year,” said Visma. “His wife will soon give birth to their second child and as an athlete he needs to recover after an intense spring and summer.”
Vingegaard had a hard crash at the Tour of the Basque Country in the beginning of April. With a collapsed lung, a contusion, a broken collarbone and several broken ribs, the two-time Tour de France winner ended up in intensive care.
At the time it was doubtful whether he would make it to the Tour de France, but at the end of June the Dane was present at the Grand Départ in Florence. A good three weeks later he stood as number two on the final podium in Nice.
After the Tour, Vingegaard also rode the Clasica San Sebastián and the Tour of Poland winning the later.
