Tom Pidcock could be in his final year at Ineos Grenadiers as Daniel Benson reports. It seems that two teams are seriously interested in transferring the Briton despite he still has a well-paid contract until the end of 2027.
Reports say that the two-time Olympic mountain bike champion would like to make a transfer at the end of 2024 and a possible reason for Ineos Grenadiers to let Pidcock go would be that the British team wants to win the Tour de France again.
Pidcock is one of the peloton’s most expensive riders, but has failed to show in recent years that he can compete with the world’s very best for the overall victory in grand tours. He won a stage on Alpe d’Huez in 2022 at the Tour de France, Strade Bianche and the Amstel Gold Race.
Pidcock’s agent Andrew McQuaid says that a departure from Ineos Grenadiers is ‘not a thing at the moment’. The Briton is focused on his goals for the future.
“The problem with long-term contracts is that things can change over time. Tom has signed a five-year extension in 2022 and he has achieved everything he needed to achieve so far, as we discussed in the negotiations,” the manager explained.
“Tom has a number of big goals to tick off in the coming years,” McQuaid continued. “Ineos are a great team with great people, we are constantly communicating about what is best for the team and how Tom fits into that, what is best for Tom, what the goals are, how to achieve them. If at any point the goals between Tom and the team differ, I am sure we will sit down with the management of Ineos Grenadiers as adults and discuss it.”
