Antonio Tiberi was satisfied after the first mountain test of the Vuelta a Espana 2024. The Bahrain-Victorious rider faced a climb not really suited to his characteristics, but he still managed to finish the stage in eighth position, just 18 seconds behind the winner.

A result that climbed him fourth place in the general classification, 38 seconds behind the winner of the day and new leader Primoz Roglic, but also allowed him to take the lead in the young rider classification.

“I’m back in the white jersey here at the Vuelta and I’m very happy,” Tiberi commented after the stage.

“I didn’t expect to have it on the fourth stage. Now I know I have to watch out for Lennert Van Eetvelt. I know he’s very strong and will certainly be one of the strongest rivals for the white jersey. I’ll definitely have to watch out for him.”

After a good Giro d’Italia, where he finished in fifth place and in the Maglia Bianca, a new important challenge has arrived for the Italian rider, but this is his third Vuelta and he knows how to face the challenges of a grand tour.

“The difference with the Giro are all these steep climbs, as well as the high temperature. Today was a really hot day, but for me it was a good start and we hope to continue like this”.
